I`ve sat on one few days ago and must say that I
was disappointend. The bike does look good, but it
doesn´t feel good. Also, having a close look at it
it appeared to be "cheap" in details, starting
with the lousy plastic speedo/tach unit etc.
The dealer I where I looked for the W650 also does
sell Triumph, and I had a look at the Legend TT
few minutes before I sat on the Kawa, and was
convinced from the first second I sat on it.
Okay, the Triumph is even more expensive and the
engine doesn´t look as retro as the Kawa´s does,
but sitting on it you didn´t see the water-cooled
three-cylinder but felt like sitting on a real
old Brit-iron. And everything was in the right
place, pegs, shifting, rear brake. It fitted just
perfectly and loks quite a bit more solid than
the W 650 does.
If I was to buy a bike with more than one cylinder
(and had the money to do so and could be sure my
wife wouldn´t kill me) I´d go for the Triumph
rather than the W 650.
But then, it is interesting news to hear about
roumors Yamaha bringing back it´s old 650 twin
and there are roumors over here in Germany
Triumph was about reintroducing a 850 cc twin
with a clear retro look naming it Bonneville...
